Guide to trekking to the white lighthouse, Goto’s representative attraction

Osezaki Lighthouse, located on the westernmost edge of Fukue Island, is well known for its famous sunsets. The view from the Osezaki viewpoints is incredible, but there’s no doubt that there is also an impactful, vast vista that can only be experienced if you head to the lighthouse.
Try referencing this report article and walking to the lighthouse.

[Time required (estimate)] Around 20 minutes out (downhill) and around 40 minutes back (uphill)
[Points to note]
・There are ups and downs and places that may be slippery due to fallen leaves, so you must wear shoes you can walk in (no sandals).
・There are no toilets at the lighthouse or along the paths.

Turn left off Prefectural Route 50 and drive for a short while, and you will arrive at the Cape Osezaki car park.

The car park has explanations of Osezaki Lighthouse and maps of the viewpoints, so make sure you check these in advance.

The first viewpoint is up the steps.

Keep going on the narrow path from the car park to find the second viewpoint.

You can see the quintessential scenery of Osezaki Lighthouse from this wooden viewpoint.

There is also a viewing square in the area between the paths from the car park.

Walk a little up the gentle steps to arrive at this square with a pavilion.
The scenery is much the same as the second viewpoint, but the view may be wider because you are higher up. You can also take a break in the pavilion and enjoy the sight of Osezaki Lighthouse.

Your 1.2 km trek starts here!

There is a well-maintained path that is easy to walk, with steps here and there.

Go up the mountain path for around 100 m to see Sagano Island on the left.

It’s downhill from here.
*Be careful not to break or harm tree branches on the way.

There are a lot of camellia trees.

You can glimpse the lighthouse around 15 minutes after you start walking.

Your field of vision will open as you draw nearer the lighthouse.

A magnificent view. Watch your feet as you continue on.

Look up at the lighthouse as you climb the steps.
These steps are steep, but they have a handrail for your peace of mind.

You made it! The lighthouse, as seen from below.

It took around 25 minutes to get here while taking pictures.

A 360° panorama, dynamic cliffs, and an endless horizon

Ignoring the cliffs, there are stones between rocks, so pay attention and see if you can find them.

Head back after seeing your fill of the scenery. It’s mostly uphill on the way back.

You can return to the car park in around 30–40 minutes

We also recommend the vista of Osezaki Lighthouse seen from the viewpoint, but if you have the chance, try walking up to the lighthouse.
