Takahama Beach: One of the best beaches on the Goto Islands, fun even in the off-season

Takahama Beach is a tourist attraction that has come to represent Goto City, and is said to be one of Japan’s most beautiful spots for swimming in the sea. Try a dip in the ocean or challenge yourself with marine sports at the beach in the summer. In the off-season, you can enjoy reflections and sunset scenery. This beach, stunning in all seasons, is definitely worth a visit.

Takahama Beach

Drive along the wonderfully scenic route from Fukue Port or Fukue Airport, and you’ll arrive at the beach in around 40 minutes. The brilliantly clear emerald-green waters and white sands are indescribably beautiful. It's worth a visit both in the summer swimming season, and even when you can’t go into the sea.

Enjoy marine sports

During the summer season, you can have fun with marine sports such as parasailing, which lets you enjoy walking in the air with a fantastically clear sea below, and banana boats, thrilling and exhilarating.

How to enjoy the off-season

You can have fun on Takahama Beach all year round—in the off-season, you can go surfing and take in the view of the evening sun sinking past Sagano Island in the west and the East China Sea.
Takahama Beach is also known as a spot for taking beautiful photos, so this article will give some pointers.

Capture a blue sea

It is said that you want good direct light (light shining directly on your subject) if you want the sea to look bluer. Since this light hits your subject directly, the color is clearly and accurately reflected in your picture. Just take your photo facing the sea with the sun behind you. Takahama Beach is on the western coast of Fukue Island, so we recommend taking your photos in the morning.

Capture reflected scenery

At low tide, you can see the sky reflected on the beach as if it were a mirror. Take even more beautiful shots depending on wind, clouds, and other conditions—this is one way to have fun with changing perspectives across the seasons and hours.
Try pointing your camera toward the mysterious view reflected on the water’s surface!

Unmissable views

The Gyoran Kannon statue that watches over the sea from the high ground was created with a prayer for good catches and the safety of the boats in the East China Sea. The vista of Takahama Beach from here is stunning. Don’t miss this superb sweeping view!
