Kaitsu Church Kaitsu Church

A white-walled church with striking stained glass windows

Descendants of believers who once entered areas like Tontomari from the Sotome region and later migrated to Takeyama built the first wooden church in 1924 (Taisho 13). Entering at the church greeted by a statue of the Virgin Mary, you can see the white-walled wooden church beyond the fields. In 1952 (Showa 27), it became independent from the Take Parish and formed the Kaitsu Parish. The current church underwent major expansion and renovation in 1962 (Showa 37) due to deterioration, and the small spire on the roof was added at this time. Inside, the vivid artistry of red, blue, and green light streaming through stained glass windows colors the space with a simple warmth. Within the quiet sanctuary, colorful seasonal flowers adorn the sanctuary, offering visitors a sense of peace amidst the solemn atmosphere.
